9. MORE ABOUT OXFORD
By foot
Discovering Oxford on foot is a great to explore famous site and hidden treasures in tucked-away lanes and passages. Oxford has Official Guided Walking Tours. There is a Tourist Information Centre on Broad Street which is right in the centre of town. From here you can pretty much navigate your way to many of the surrounding colleges. You are allowed to go inside the colleges and walk round but you will have to check with the Porter on the way in. Some Porters are quite friendly and will let you walk round even if it is outside the visitor times.
By Bus
This is another great way of exploring Oxford and the main stop is located opposite the Tourist Information Centre outside on Broad Street. If you have a spare hour or two, I would recommend this particularly on a nice day since you sit on the upper deck which has an open roof. The bus departs every 20/30 minutes. There is need to book, just pay the driver as you get on. Your ticket is valid all day and you can get on and off at any of the 19 stops on the tour.
On the tour you will see Magdalen College, The site of William Morris's first workshop, University Science Area, the City Walls, Sheldonian Theatre, Ashmolean Museum, Martyr's Memorial, Christ Church College, River Cherwell, Carfax Tower, Alice's Shop, Radcliffe Infirmary, Bodleian Library, The High, Broad Street and the University Parks. The tour also stops at various points for visits to University Colleges, Museums, Shops, Restaurants and The Botanic Garden.
